I’ll be honest, I could care less about the NBA & if there is going to be a season.

BUT, when it comes to Cedarville Basketball, I am very excited about the college basketball season.

One of the best parts about my job is to photograph CU sports, I enjoy shooting all the sports at CU but one of my (many) favorites is to shoot basketball. It’s going be a great season!

I honestly can’t say 11-11-11 was a historic day, and really no different than any other day but the numbers are cool. I am now waiting for 12-12-12 next year.

I had a full day of shooting on November 11, 2011 or 11-11-11. Friday the 11th was Veteran’s Day, that day alone is a great day that we as American’s can honor our Veteran’s.

Yesterday was a big day … Emily turned 13!

The big day started out early with a father daughter breakfast at Beans & Cream, followed by a special gift.

In the evening we celebrated her birthday with her favorite meal and then had a few more gifts & Schuler’s donuts in place of a birthday cake.

She is not to old to still blow out birthday candles. I was happy to see that she blew them all out

without leaving any.

Last & First

Today was the last pour on the construction of the new Health Science Center at Cedarville University. I was up on the roof of the SSC at 6:45am getting some shots of the final pour. It has been fun getting shots throughout the construction process and watching the building go up floor by floor. I’d say why stop now, just add another floor.

Today was also the first day of school for my wife & girls. We had a great summer & it seemed to end a little early. We have a tradition of taking a picture of the girls on each first day of school and today was no different … here is a shot of my 3 beautiful ladies …

Annual Freshmen group shot

It’s that time again at Cedarville University when all the students come back and we welcome a new group of students. An estimated 850 freshmen students arrived this weekend during the traditional Getting Started Weekend including the annual freshmen group shot. This was my 19th year in shooting the freshmen group and I look forward to it every year. I’ve taken this group shot from a variety of locations over the years. The last two years I took the shot from the roof of the SSC with the freshmen students on plaza outside the SSC lower entrance around the clock.

This year the light was great, nearly perfect … the sun was behind the clouds avoiding any shadows and students squinting since the sun is just over my left shoulder at that time of day. This year was also a first … can you figure out why? Look closely …

I went up a little early and set up my Canon G9 right alongside my camera & tripod. I created a time lapse of the group shot. I think it’s pretty cool aside from the dust in the camera from years of lugging it around in all kinds of elements.

Meet Serena

Well, it looks like we are going to do it again. We had such a great time and fell in love with Lars & what Four Paws For Ability is all about, that we are going to foster another dog. The day we returned Lars back to 4PFA we were already talking about the next dog. We’ve returned from our Italy and are now back into the swing of things. We knew there may be a litter of puppies up for fostering in August and just found out there were several puppies ready for fostering. We visited 4PFA on Saturday and met Serena and I have to admit, we fell in love with her. Serena is a 3 1/2 month old Labradoodle, she is spunky and full of life. She already has some basic obedience down, which I think is impressive. Over the last few days we prayed about it and talked about it as a family …. and plan to pick her up on Tuesday.

On a side note, we are so excited for Lars! We saw him on Saturday and got to say hi, I’d like to think that he knew who we were. It was so good seeing him. He heard he may be going to a family in September … we are so excited for the family and Lars. He will be such a good service dog!

The Italy Adventure XIV.5 #Italy #FB

Well, we are all well at the camp. The last week went very fast and it was full of activities & fun time.with two camps going on at the same time and helping both camps including working on the new building. We all kept busy!

There was a Junior High camp with about 60 campers & a primary camp (ages 7-11) with about 24 campers. In the mornings were glorified crowd control while the counselors had their morning meeting. With the JH’ers they had four squads so every day they rotated through floor hockey, tennis, rifle (BB) target shooting & bracelet making. In their own way each was popular. In the target shooting, we kept track of the top 3 shooters in each squad and at the end of the week we had a shoot-off among the 3 from each team awarding the winner to the team with the most points in the target.

While with the primary campers we had 3 groups with dodgeball, rifle (BB) target shooting & bracelet making. In their own way each was popular. During the 4 mornings, they were able to go to any of the stations they wanted to.

We had a small roll during 2 evening sessions with a game & testimony. We were asked to come up with a game that there would be a squad winner so points would be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Zach shared his testimony one evening to the junior highers.

The last week they continued to need help in the kitchen both in preperation & cleanup. I team enjoyed working in the kitchen alongside the nationals.

Joe & Stefania took Roxy and I out to a nice restaurant in Castelli. We had a great time of fellowship and good Italian food.

A relaxing day with the primary campers up on the mountain with some hiking, water games and a picnic. We brought along with us water balloon launchers, the campers had a great time launching balloons at human targets (Stephen, Zach, Lorenzo, Pietro & myself).

Joe shares the gospel to both camps during the Thursday evening campfire session.

We are just an hour away from leaving the camp. We are sad to leave but excited to return to our friends and family & new adventures God has for us. Last evening there was a party on our behalf, they made a very big cake, we had a great time of fellowship with the counselors and staff.

We will be going to Rome soon and will be staying there 2 days visiting Rome (a very beautiful city). We hope to hit all the hot spots including a few not so well known locations. I am not sure what kind of WifI & Internet we will have access to so this might be the last until our return back to the States.

I will post a recap of our 3 days in Rome shortly.

Saturday was a full day of cleaning and getting ready for a new set of campers. After breakfast of Saturday, while most of the children left. several stayed for another week of camp. We had to clean all the bathrooms and clean all the rooms in addition to the grounds.

The new group of campers started arriving around 5pm. Similar to last weeks camps, there are 2 camps this week but opposite … there are around 50 junior higher’s and only about 20 primary age children. The Cedarville team is helping out with the junior higher’s this week.

It is now Sunday and we are in full swing of the camp, we are learning names & making friends with the campers. This morning we had a time with Joe and he encouraged us with speaking on Ps. 139. We were given a day off today. Please pray for the team as we have only a few more days here at the camp.

The Italy Adventure XV #Italy #FB

Well we made it to Rome and arrived at our hotel around 12:30 BUT is was not without many tears and hugs from the campers, staff & counselors. I can’t begin to say how hard it was this morning to say goodbye to all the people at the camp. We all formed some great friendships with people at the camp.

After breakfast in the morning (Joe & Stefania joined us for our last breakfast), Joe had all the Cedarville team come into the dining room for the children to sing one last song for us before we left. It was very special to hear the kids singing one last time yet very sad. Joe then asked us all to go out into the yard so that the children & staff could say their goodbyes. There were many hugs & tears! We all have our own stories of how specific people had an impact on our visit both young and old. One specific child is Giovanni. We met him the second day. He was in the family that Anna, Zach, Adam & I helped move. Giovanni was at both of the camps we helped with and we formed a friendship even with our limited ability to talk. When I was saying goodbye to him he just started crying & hiding his face, well, that got me started. I found a staff worker that could translate for me and I talked to him and told him how much of an encouragement he was to me even as a young kid, and maybe I would see him again and trusted he would grow into a young Godly man. Roxy has a picture of me talking to him with Sara translating to him.

We toured Rome this afternoon and saw San Giovanni, Scala Santa as well as seeing the Coloseum at night. We had pizza outside San Giovanni in a small piazza. It was great walking around Rome again. We took the Metro & a bus and managed to make our way back to the hotel without getting lost or losing anybody!
